Alter Trading Corporation is one of the largest recyclers of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the country, serving industrial clients and salvage operations. With more than 125 years in business, Alter continues to expand its services and capabilities. Timeline: January 2020 to April 2020. H&H Mechanical Contractors completed a commercial HVAC expansion for Alter Trading’s facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Scope of Work

H&H Mechanical Contractors provided and installed:

    H&H Mechanical provided and installed the following HVAC and ventilation systems:

    • 1 indoor-mounted Cambridge unit (675,000 BTU)
    • 2 roof-mounted powered relief hoods with control dampers and actuators
    • 1 Carrier VAV RTU for the office area, with associated supply and return ductwork
    • 1 Macro Air Technologies 24 ft. HVLS fan with 1 wall-mounted controller
    • All necessary natural gas piping serving the Cambridge unit and RTU
    • 8 VAV boxes with BACnet controls in the office area for zoning
    • All associated ductwork and controls for the VAV system
    • 1 ductless split unit serving the office IT room

    Results

    The HVAC expansion was completed successfully and delivered increased capacity, improved airflow distribution, and stronger environmental control across the expanded space.

    Key outcomes included more consistent temperatures, optimized equipment operation, improved energy efficiency and system performance, and scalability to support future expansion.

    Work was completed with minimal disruption to ongoing operations and met applicable mechanical and safety standards. The project was completed during the winter months of 2020 and delivered ahead of schedule.
